About the Role:
As a Level Designer you will be responsible for creating an immersive playable environment based upon the mythology, narrative, mechanics and designs. You will be creating game levels block outs, level mapping out complexity of game play, defining how activities will be played within various locations, and optimising the gameplay levels using Unity.
Dreams Quest is looking for a passionate Level Designer to help us properly plan and test all mechanics/times/interactions and build an appropriate environment (blockout), prepares the environment in a simplified version and places all the necessary mechanics in consultation with the programmers/developers and Games Designer to check the operation of the mechanics and the environment before filling the environment with all nice-looking assets.
Responsibilities:
Work with 3D artists, narrative/game designers to manage the design of the levels through the production pipeline from concept to implementation.
Tuning the levels for game play aligned to the vision from conceptualization, prototyping, building and scripting including difficulty and accessibility
Ensuring the pacing of levels for gameplay aligns to the narrative and difficulty of levelling up the character and overall gaming experience
Create level layouts, hot spots, and points of interest (POIs) for players to explore according to the themes and quests
Prototype the environment, establish the layouts, blockouts, grey box, and suggest ways of using the interactive and non-interactive elements to create the desired emotions
Develop solid design documentation for level progression (flow), layouts, and 3D block-outs for in-engine playtesting
Collaboration, Coordination and Planning
Collaborate with the art, narrative, visual effects team members to ensure highest quality outputs and consensus amongst others
Solutions focussed: anticipating, identifying and articulating areas requiring attention to mitigate risks and to develop solutions
Qualification:
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a level design role (game levels, level layouts, drawing maps, architecture, interacting with objects)
Must have worked on at least 1 (preferably 2) published games as a level designer
Experience in Unity 3D, Blender is a must with basic knowledge of texturing.
Experience working in 3D environments, Strong ability to create grey Box
Strong understanding of level and game design fundamentals.
Open and creative mind that is passionate about game concepts and innovative to create new concepts and ideas to make gameplay exciting
Must be a self-motivated and energetic team player with a very strong work ethic and teamplayer
Passion for creating amazing environments in line with rapidly developing technology
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with weekly builds. Preferably with experience working in Agile prototyping and building.
