We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team. The ideal candidate will collaborate with our partner, a company that focuses on molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, and biotechnology, to improve patient outcomes. Our partner operates a certified clinical laboratory specializing in automated DNA-based molecular analysis of chronic and infectious diseases. The company is also involved in research, drug screening, clinical trials, and academic collaborations to develop complex genetic tests and pre-clinical treatments. The role involves managing and maintaining the database systems that store and process data from various laboratory tests.
Responsibilities
– Database Management: Design, implement, and maintain robust database systems using Percona MySQL PXC cluster solutions with HAproxy and PMM monitoring to ensure efficient storage, retrieval, and management of data related to laboratory tests.
– Performance Monitoring: Utilize PMM monitoring tools to monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and take proactive measures to optimize and improve database performance.
– High Availability: Configure and manage HAproxy for high availability and load balancing of the Percona MySQL PXC cluster.
– Data Security: Implement and enforce data security measures to protect sensitive patient information and ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
– Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
– Collaboration: Work closely with the IT team, laboratory staff, and researchers to understand data needs and provide database solutions that support their work.
– Automation: Implement and manage database automation processes to enhance efficiency and reduce manual workload.
– Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues promptly to minimize downtime and data loss.
– Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.
– Database Migration: Lead and manage database migration projects, specifically from MySQL version 5.7 to MySQL 8 cluster.
Requirements
– Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degree or certifications are a plus.
– Experience: Proven experience as a Database Administrator, preferably in a clinical laboratory, healthcare, or biotechnology setting.
Technical Skills
– Proficiency in Percona MySQL PXC cluster solutions, including configuration and management.
– Experience with HAproxy for high availability and load balancing.
– Proficiency in using PMM (Percona Monitoring and Management) for database monitoring and performance tuning.
– Experience in database migration from MySQL version 5.7 to MySQL 8 cluster.
– Strong understanding of database architecture, design, and performance tuning.
– Experience with database security practices and regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA).
– Knowledge of automated database management tools and scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python, Bash).
– Familiarity with cloud-based database services and infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure).
– Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
– Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
– Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
